The publisher sent me a handful of ARCs for the next book in the "Magic" series: Who Needs Magic? I'll be giving at least one copy away on GoodReads, closer to the publication date: July 9, 2013. For those who read Don't Expect Magic, you know Delaney Collins, teen fairy godmother (or "f.g." as she calls it), has sort of granted her first wish, as well as found love. Things don't go as well in this installment, however, when Delaney finds herself in a rivalry with a self-described "professional" teen f.g., to see who can grant the next wish first. But their battle blinds them to their clients' true wishes, as well as to their own. If you're in the Philadelphia area, I'll be doing a booksigning on: Sunday, December 16, 2012, 1:00 p.m. at: Chester County Book & Music Company 975 Paoli Pike West Chester, PA 19380 610-696-1661 This is a wonderful independent bookstore, with a fantastic selection of books. Please stop by and do some holiday shopping! If you missed it in hardcover or want to buy it again as a gift :-) Don't Expect Magic has just been published in paperback! You can find it at independent bookstores as well as some Barnes & Nobles. It's also available as an e-book. It's been on my home page for a while, but FINALLY, I'm putting it on this Book News page! (Hey! I've been busy writing! I can't do everything!) ANYWAY - I'm very excited about the cover, which I think is quite beautiful. Different than the cover for Don't Expect Magic, but taking it to the next level, showing a slightly more mature Delaney (and more challenged, as you'll see if you read the book). The image on the cover is referred to very briefly and subtly in the novel. See if you can catch it... Of course, you'll have to wait a few months, since the book won't be published until next year: July 8, 2013 to be exact. Teen Read Week Events! While I await the OFFICIAL Random House/Delacorte cover design for Who Needs Magic?, I thought I would share this design by artist Lissy Goode, on Deviant Art (where you can check out her many other cool photos and designs, including a sketch of Delaney!). This cover would actually work really well if I ever spin off a series about a new character in this book, rival fairy godmother Ariella Patterson. It might happen! *The title of this blog post is a sly allusion to Rene Magritte's painting "This is Not a Pipe." It's surrealism, so don't over think it too much... What a question! I need magic and I expect to get it from the amazing art designers at Random House, who are currently working on the cover for Who Needs Magic?, the sequel to Don't Expect Magic. I've just finished the copy edits. The sequel is scheduled to be published in fall of 2013. It seems far away, but time has a way of zipping along without stopping. ;-) Stay tuned for more info, as well as a cover image as soon as I have it! On Saturday, June 23, 2012, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, I'll be at the The Crowley Company's Booth, #1203, signing copies of Don't Expect Magic for first 40 attendees who visit the booth and participate in a demo of Crowley's scanners (which are used for scanning microfilm and archival materials). I may cruise by the Random House booth as well. American Library Association Conference Anaheim Convention Center 800 West Katella Avenue Anaheim, CA 92802 (714) 765-8950 |
