I'm getting in here under the wire for December. I haven't found any stupendous quotes in the books I've read this month, but fortunately, I collect them, so here's one from a book I read in high school...
"The only excuse for making a useless thing is that one admires it intensely. All art is quite useless." From "The Picture of Dorian Gray" by Oscar Wilde I've received the perfect Christmas present! As if inspired by "The Big Picture" (if you haven't seen this movie, you must if you love movies), I received word as I was literally leaving town that Wendy Loggia at Random House had made an offer on my book! Calls from two airports (I had a connection) ensued the following day to talk about further details and then a call from Wendy -- while I was in Barnes & Noble with my mom.
With the help of lots of nice Facebook comments, and emails and calls from friends (thank God for these ways to stay in touch when you're out of town), the glorious reality has finally kicked in. I'm especially thrilled and amazed because Wendy edits the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series by Ann Brashares, as well as Libba Bray and other incredible authors(!!!) I was in awe that my wonderful agents (Lydia Wills & Alyssa Reuben) even submitted to her in the first place! I love happy endings and I'm so grateful to have one of my own... Details to come about the publishing process, since from here on in, it's all new to me (since I only know the film world). |
